Our Last Heroes was started in January of 2007 by Dr. Richard Smith. On January 2, 2008 his stepson - Collin Bowen - was in an explosion during the war in Afghanistan. He died approximately 4 months later. (Shown below)
Dr. Smith's father had five other brothers who all served in World War II. (Shown below).
